Sanganeri Fabric by the Meter

GI-certified hand block print fabric, cut fresh per meter

Block print fabric by the meter is running yardage printed by hand with carved wooden blocks, sold uncut for suits, kurtas, dresses, quilting and home sewing. Ours is true Sanganeri: printed in Sanganer, Jaipur — the cluster whose hand block craft holds a Geographical Indication tag granted in 2009 (certificate 2010). Every meter is 44 inches wide, printed with azo-free or natural dyes, and carries an honest craft label: hand block only, never screen print sold as handwork.

Questions

About Sanganeri Fabric by the Meter

Why does your block print fabric cost ₹549–899 per meter when bazaar fabric is ₹300–450?

Because every meter is genuinely hand block printed in Sanganer on quality base cloth — cambric, mulmul, linen or Chanderi silk — with azo-free or natural dyes, and priced honestly with no discount theatre. Cheaper 'block print' yardage online is usually screen printed on thin sheeting; it photographs the same and washes very differently.

How do I verify this is hand block print and not screen print?

Turn the fabric over: hand block printing penetrates the cloth, so the motif shows clearly on the reverse. Look along the length for faint block-join lines and slight motif misregistration every 9–12 inches — the human signature of the craft. Screen prints are perfectly uniform and nearly blank on the back. We sell no screen print at all.

Will the colours fade after two washes?

No — that common marketplace complaint traces to unfixed screen-print dye. Our pigments are azo-free and properly cured; the first one or two washes shed only loose surface dye. Wash cold and separately with mild detergent, dry in shade, and avoid bleach or long soaking. Natural-dye fabrics (indigo, madder) mellow gracefully rather than fading out.

How is fabric by the meter sold and shipped?

Minimum 1 meter, then half-meter increments, always as one continuous cut — no joined pieces. Width is 44 inches (112 cm) across the range. Fabric ships rolled, not folded, anywhere in India; pre-wash before stitching and allow 3–5% shrinkage on cottons.
