Mulmul Dohar & Summer Blankets

Three-layer muslin dohars, hand block printed — the AC-room blanket of Jaipur

A dohar is a light three-layer blanket: two sheets of fine mulmul (cotton muslin) enclosing a soft cotton flannel core, edge-stitched so it breathes while it warms. It is what Jaipur homes actually sleep under from March to October — lighter than a razai, warmer than a sheet, perfect under a fan or AC. Ours are hand block printed in Sanganer with azo-free dyes, in double and single sizes, machine-washable and softer with every wash.

Questions

About Mulmul Dohar & Summer Blankets

What is a mulmul dohar used for?

It is the everyday Indian summer blanket — light enough for fan weather, warm enough for AC rooms at 22–24°C. Most homes use a dohar eight months of the year and switch to a razai only in deep winter.

What is the difference between a dohar and a razai?

A dohar is three flat layers of breathable muslin and flannel; a razai is a filled quilt with carded cotton inside. Dohar = summer/AC weight, razai = winter weight. We make both, honestly labelled.

Can a dohar go in the washing machine?

Yes — that is its everyday advantage over quilts. Cold gentle cycle, mild detergent, shade dry; the mulmul gets noticeably softer over the first few washes.

What does a good mulmul dohar cost?

Genuine hand block printed double dohars run ₹2,499–2,899 here and singles ₹2,199; kids' size ₹1,999. Cheaper 'dohar' listings online are usually single-layer polycotton sheets, not true three-layer mulmul.
