The Detail

About this piece

Block print silk fabric on a Chanderi silk-cotton base: a fine rose buti hand-stamped in Sanganer, Jaipur over the fabric's natural sheen. Chanderi's silk warp gives lustre and body while the cotton weft keeps it breathable — the classic festive-suit and dupatta cloth. Printing by hand on silk demands a lighter touch and slower table than cotton, which the per-meter price reflects honestly.

How to wear

Make it the kameez of a festive suit over plain cotton lining, or a full dupatta against a solid silk suit. Handle gently: dry cleaning is safest, otherwise a brief cold hand wash without wringing. Iron on low with a pressing cloth to keep the Chanderi sheen.

Questions

Frequently asked

Is this pure silk?

It is Chanderi silk-cotton — silk warp for sheen, cotton weft for breathability — and we label it exactly that. Pure-silk yardage prints and prices very differently.

Does block printing work differently on silk?

Yes; silk-cotton takes dye faster, so printers use lighter pressure and slower table work. Expect the same honest hand variations, slightly softer edge definition than cambric.

Can I machine-wash it?

We advise against it. Dry clean, or hand wash cold in under five minutes with mild liquid detergent, never wring, and dry flat in shade.
