The Detail

About this piece

A king-size (90×108 in) hand block print bedsheet in the Mughal jaal — an interlaced trellis of flowers and vines that came to Sanganer via Mughal court ateliers. Printed in madder-toned red on an ivory 200 TC cotton ground, it needs multiple blocks aligned by eye, which is why jaal work sits above buti work in printing skill. Block printed bed linen for buyers who want the ornate end of the jaipuri tradition.

How to wear

The jaal is a full-coverage pattern, so keep the rest of the bed plain — ivory or beige solids work best. Cold wash with mild detergent, shade dry; iron on reverse to keep the print surface crisp.

Questions

Frequently asked

What makes a jaal harder to print than a buti?

A jaal is a continuous trellis, so every block placement must join the previous repeat exactly — the printer aligns by eye across the full 108-inch length. Hairline joins where repeats meet are the signature of genuine hand work, not defects.

Is the red colourfast?

Yes — it is an azo-free reactive red, fixed before stitching. Expect a slight, even release in the first cold wash; thereafter the red mellows rather than fades. Avoid bleach and direct-sun drying.

Does it suit gifting or export?

This is our most-requested design for weddings and overseas gifting — the Mughal jaal reads unmistakably Indian. It ships folded with a craft card explaining the GI-certified Sanganeri print.
