About this piece
A king-size (90×108 in) dabu bedsheet: the motif is hand-blocked in mud resist, then the cloth is dipped in natural indigo vats, so the pattern stays pale against a deep blue ground. Dabu is the resist arm of Rajasthan's block-print tradition, practised alongside Sanganeri work in the Jaipur belt. On 200 TC cotton, each sheet carries the small crackles and tonal shifts that only vat dyeing produces — no two are identical.

How to wear
Deep indigo anchors a room — pair with ivory, ochre or rust cushions. Natural indigo rubs off slightly when new (crocking) and releases blue in the first two or three cold washes; wash alone, no soaking, mild detergent, shade dry. The colour then settles into the soft, lived-in indigo that dabu is prized for.

Why does the blue come off a little at first?
That is natural indigo behaving exactly as it should — surface dye releases in early washes and with friction, then stabilises. It is the same behaviour as raw denim, and the reason vat-dyed indigo ages beautifully instead of going dull.
How is dabu different from a printed indigo pattern?
In dabu the pattern is blocked in mud resist and the whole cloth is dipped in an indigo vat, so the blue penetrates the fibre and the motif stays reserved in the ground colour. A printed blue sits on the surface; a vat blue lives in the yarn.
Is the variation between sheets a defect?
No — crackle lines, tonal depth and slight motif softness vary with each vat dip. Your sheet will differ subtly from the photograph; that is the honest signature of the process.
